The Forum of former Enugu State House of Assembly members led by it’s pioneer chairman Dr. Josef Umunnakwe Onoh has placed a one million Naira (N1,000,000) reward on anyone with useful and credible intelligence that will assist security agencies to arrest Mrs Adachukwu Chukelu-Okafor of Anambra state, who alleged abused an 11 years old girl, Miss Happiness Nwafor, an indigene of Enugu state, with sever bodily harm.
Chairman of the forum, Dr Josef Onoh, and Secretary, Dr. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu said that it was unfortunate that in the recent time most abused minors by their guardians usually hail from Enugu state and wondered why such heartless guardians usually choose Enugu state as destination for sourcing of children they abuse.
“We’re placing one million Naira bounty on anybody with useful information to the security agencies on how to arrest one Mrs. Adachukwu Chukelu-Okafor who brutally abused Miss Happiness Nwafor, an indigene of Awgu local government area of Enugu state, that lived with Mrs Chukelu-Okafor.
“We have had enough of this dastard act on our young people who they keep picking for premeditated abuse. We ask the ministry of Gender Affairs in Enugu state to begin to streamline and keep proper identities and records of these people who come to Enugu state to pick house helps but end up abusing them. We have had enough of that,” Ezeugwu said.
Chairman of the Forum, Onoh, called on the Governor of Anambra State H.E Prof Chukwuma Soludo to support security agencies to ensure the fleeing offender is apprehended.
“Our forum will take measures to ensure we encourage the state and federal legislative bodies to strengthen legislative and institutional frameworks to protect children vulnerable and exposed to violence, abuse and exploitation in Nigeria; strengthen capacities of government and key stakeholders, including social welfare and justice services that prevent and respond to violence against children,” Onoh said.
It will be recalled that news with pictures had gone viral on how Mrs Chukelu-Okafor tortured with a hot-pressing iron and knife to burn and chop in pieces, the private part of her house help, little Miss Nwafor.
The Federal government, through the Minister for Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanaeye had placed two million Naira bounty on the alleged child abuser, asking Nigerians, go out there and search for Mrs Smith Adachukwu Chukelu-Okafor, bring her out, call any police station, and hand her over.
The Enugu State House of Assembly had also in it’s plenary condemned the child abuser, mandating the state ministry of Gender Affairs to wade into the matter with a view to bring Mrs. Chukelu-Okafor to book.
