The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has successfully mediated a dispute between Osun State Government and Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), a gold mining company.
The dispute, which led to the closure of SROL’s operations by the state government, centered on issues such as disputed tax claims, shareholding, environmental concerns, and economic interests.
Dr. Alake emphasized the importance of a harmonious relationship between state governments and mining operators, stressing that solid minerals play a crucial role in the federal government’s economic diversification agenda.
He noted that conflicting policies and strained relations between operators and state governments can deter critical investments needed to grow the mining sector.
After deliberations, both parties pledged to continue discussions to resolve outstanding issues. The resolution was marked by the presentation of the state’s shareholding certificate to Governor Ademola Adeleke by Segilola Resources Limited.
The minister’s intervention was welcomed by Governor Adeleke, who expressed the state’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business while upholding ethical standards.
The resolution is expected to promote industrial harmony, ease the business climate, and attract foreign direct investment (FDI) to Osun State.
