Ibadan to host PDP elective national convention in November

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced its upcoming elective National Convention, set to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, 2025. This decision was revealed in an 11-point communiqué following the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Thursday in Abuja.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, detailed that preparations for the convention will be finalized at the next NEC meeting, scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025. He also confirmed that the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary have been instructed to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the forthcoming convention.

The NEC approved the formation of both the National Convention Committee and the Zoning Committee to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process. Ologunagba expressed satisfaction with the resolution of internal disputes, emphasizing the party’s commitment to unity and dialogue. He reaffirmed that PDP remains a strong and united force, ready to provide Nigerians with a viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a significant move, the NEC directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to initiate legal proceedings to reclaim legislative seats occupied by former PDP members who have defected to other political parties. They stated, “In our determination to preserve all electoral mandates given to our party by Nigerians, the NEC directed the NWC to immediately pursue legal actions to recover the seats of all serving National and State Assembly members elected on the PDP platform who have since defected.”

The communiqué also addressed concerns regarding some party members allegedly aligning with other political entities, urging for renewed loyalty, discipline, and dedication to PDP’s core principles. The NEC called upon these members to reconsider their actions and reaffirm their commitment to the PDP, noting that simultaneous membership in two political parties is illegal.

Moreover, the NEC reassured members that strides have been made to address their concerns related to the party. They reiterated PDP’s position as the leading opposition party and platform of choice for Nigerians, expressing readiness to collaborate with like-minded citizens to rescue the nation from the current APC administration.

The NEC adjourned its meeting, with the next (102nd) assembly scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025. Present at the NEC meeting were PDP governors from Ogun, Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba, Osun, Adamawa, and Bauchi states, among other prominent party leaders, including Chief Bode George, Chief Eddy Olafeso, Labaran Maku, Seriake Dickson, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Senator Bukola Saraki.
