‘I am arrogantly Nigerian’ — First Lady rallies women leaders to empower and mentor others

First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has issued a bold charge to women in positions of authority, urging them to rise beyond their offices and change lives through mentorship and economic empowerment.

“I am arrogantly Nigerian. I love this country,” she declared passionately on Friday at the Presidential Villa, as 24 female Chief Executives of government agencies and organizations paid her a courtesy visit.

Describing the CEOs as trailblazers, Mrs. Tinubu insisted that their duty goes beyond occupying positions of power.

“Birth yourselves in others. Look for them to mentor them. Replicate yourself in other women and that is the way we would be strong,” she said, stressing that only deliberate mentoring would ensure that women become an unstoppable force in nation-building.

The First Lady also invoked the legacies of legendary matriarchs like Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo, Gambo Sawaba, and Abibat Mogaji. “We have to come together, better and stronger than them,” she said. “Make life easier for women. Don’t look for the volume—take one person through life, give scholarships, mentor, and make a difference.”

On national development, Mrs. Tinubu highlighted the importance of completing the National Library project, describing it as a lifeline for underprivileged students.

In a strong show of solidarity, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Director-General of NIDCOM and leader of the delegation, praised the First Lady’s passion for women’s empowerment and pledged the forum’s support for the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

“We do not take our mandates lightly,” Dabiri-Erewa said. “We affirm our commitment and unflinching support for your initiatives and for the success of the administration in 2027.”

With 24 of Nigeria’s most powerful female CEOs gathered under one roof, the First Lady’s rallying cry was clear: women must lift women — and in doing so, lift the nation.
