Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared that the party is poised to dismantle godfatherism, money politics, and elite wheeler-dealing that have long dominated Nigeria’s political space.
Speaking on Sunday at a Conscience Forum meeting where he welcomed new members into the party, Aregbesola — a former governor of Osun State and one-time ally of President Bola Tinubu — said the ADC has been “divinely ordained” to liberate Nigerians.
“ADC is not like any other party in Nigeria,” he said. “Our ideology is clear: a people-friendly government. That is our distinct commitment — to serve ordinary Nigerians.”
Quoting Article 7 of the party’s constitution, the former Minister of Interior stressed that the ADC positions itself as a vehicle for workers, artisans, and the masses, unlike parties dominated by political elites.
“You know them, and I also know them,” he told members. “Bye-bye to jaga jaga politics. Bye-bye to moneybags and godfathers.”
He further described the ADC as people-centric and different from other political organisations in both ideology and structure, insisting that “God has ordained ADC for the liberation of Nigeria.”
The statement comes amid renewed momentum for the party. In July, opposition politicians and key stakeholders adopted the ADC as a coalition platform for the 2027 elections. Just last week, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) formally recognised the new National Working Committee (NWC) of the party led by former Senate President David Mark.
