Obidient supporter attacks Labour Party chairman at Abuja, Benin airports

The crisis rocking the Labour Party deepened over the weekend as its National Chairman, Julius Abure, was physically attacked at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, and later at the Benin Airport in Edo State.

According to Obiora Ifoh, National Publicity Secretary of Abure’s faction, the chairman was assaulted on Friday by Ms. Precious Oruche, a well known known supporter of Peter Obi and member of the Obidient Movement, popularly called “Mama P.”

Ifoh said the incident began at the Abuja airport while Abure was boarding a Max Air flight to Benin. Oruche allegedly confronted him in the boarding queue and continued the assault mid-flight, despite efforts by cabin crew to calm her down. The confrontation reportedly spilled over to Benin Airport until security operatives intervened, whisking Abure to safety and handing the suspect over to the police.

In a statement, Ifoh described Oruche as a content creator from a “known political family,” alleging she had boasted in videos that she was untouchable due to her connections within the police. He claimed she vowed to continue attacking Abure and other party executives, accusing them of “killing the Labour Party” and being the reason Peter Obi left.

“The leadership of the Labour Party is completely troubled with this cyberbullying and the consequences of this political aggression. We call on the Inspector General of Police to thoroughly investigate this suicidal attack on Barrister Julius Abure and the leadership of the Labour Party,” Ifoh said.

He added that the attack was a calculated attempt by anti-democratic forces to destabilise the party. He urged members to remain calm and await the outcome of the police investigation, reminding them that assault and cyberbullying are serious offences under Nigerian law.
