Nigeria’s Federal Government has dismissed allegations by United States President Donald J. Trump suggesting widespread killings of Christians in the country and calling for Nigeria to be designated as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the government said President Trump’s remarks do not reflect the realities on ground, stressing that Nigerians of different religions have coexisted peacefully for decades.
The spokesperson of the ministry, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, noted that Nigeria values international concern for human rights and religious freedom but insists that such claims must be rooted in facts.
“Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria remains committed to fighting terrorism, strengthening interfaith harmony, and protecting the lives and rights of all its people,” the ministry stated.
The Federal Government also affirmed its readiness to continue constructive engagement with the United States to deepen understanding of Nigeria’s security challenges and efforts to sustain peace across the country.
The statement concluded that Nigeria will not be deterred by misinformation and will remain focused on national unity and security.
