FCT Police debunks claim of attack on naval officer, clarifies stop-and-search incident in Kubwa

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading social media reports alleging that police officers attacked a naval officer, identified as Lt. Ahmed Yerima, during a stop-and-search operation at the NNPC Junction along the Kubwa Expressway.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Command said the report—circulated by Instagram blogger “Mazitundeednut”—was a deliberate misrepresentation of a routine security operation.

According to the Police, the incident occurred on 16 November 2025 at about 6:15 p.m. when a patrol team stopped an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows. Officers approached the vehicle and politely asked the occupant to identify himself and explain the concealments, in line with standard procedure.

The statement noted that the driver refused to cooperate and instead made several phone calls while rolling up his tinted windows. Minutes later, three naval personnel arrived and identified the occupant as their colleague. They also recorded parts of the encounter before leaving the scene. After the confirmation, the police team allowed the vehicle to continue its journey.

The Command described subsequent claims of an “assassination attempt” as malicious fabrications intended to create panic.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, urged residents to always cooperate with law-enforcement officers and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing fear and unrest.

Residents were also reminded to report emergencies or suspicious activities via the Command’s hotlines: 08032003913, 08068587311, and CRU: 08107314192.

The statement was signed by SP Josephine Adeh, anipr, mipra, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command.
