Army confirms killing of soldier in Ikorodu after being attacked by mad man — Launches investigation

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has released preliminary details surrounding the tragic death of a soldier who was attacked while on internal security duty in the Imota area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

According to the Division, the incident occurred on November 16, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m. when the soldier attempted to calm a chaotic situation. During the intervention, he was suddenly attacked by a mentally unstable individual who struck him on the head with a heavy log.

Other soldiers at the scene quickly intervened, neutralising the attacker and recovering the soldier’s weapon. The wounded soldier was rushed to the Ikorodu General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. He has since been buried according to Islamic rites, with the Acting Commanding Officer and other military officers in attendance.

The Nigerian Army expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen soldier, describing his death as a painful loss to the nation. The 81 Division also confirmed that an investigation has been instituted to uncover full details of the incident.

The Army urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious behaviour to security agencies. It also appealed to media organisations and social media users to report responsibly as the investigation continues.
