The Awolowo family has confirmed the death of Olusegun Awolowo Jr., distinguished lawyer, public servant, and grandson of the legendary nationalist, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
In an emotional tribute, the family described him as a pillar of strength and devotion whose life revolved around love, service, and duty. They praised his unwavering loyalty to his family and Nigeria.
“He was the world’s most phenomenal husband, father, and grandfather — steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family,” the family wrote, calling him a “painfully loyal servant to Nigeria” whose career was driven by integrity, vision, and purpose.
Awolowo Jr., who headed the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) from 2013 to 2021, played a notable role in shaping Nigeria’s export policies and strengthening non-oil trade opportunities.
Born on September 27, 1963, he was widely respected for his dedication to public service, his sharp legal mind, and his passion for Nigeria’s economic development. The family expressed profound gratitude for his impactful life and the love he generously shared, adding, “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy defined by commitment to family, faith, and national progress.
