Tinubu celebrates rescue of 100 Niger students, demands urgent freedom for 115 still held

President Bola Tinubu has applauded Nigeria’s security agencies for successfully rescuing 100 students abducted from Papiri Catholic School in Niger State, following the November 21 attack that saw over 200 students and teachers kidnapped.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed relief over the return of the students while urging security operatives to intensify efforts to free the remaining 115 students and staff still in captivity.

“I rejoice with Governor Umar Bago and commend our security agencies for their steadfast work in ensuring the safe return of the students to their families,” Tinubu said.

He assured parents and guardians that both the federal and state governments are working closely to ensure all victims are reunited with their families.

The President maintained that his directive to security agencies remains unchanged: all kidnapped Nigerians must be rescued unharmed.

“The Federal Government will continue to work with Niger State and other states to secure our schools and make the learning environment safer and more conducive for our young ones,” he said.

Tinubu further charged state governments and security agencies to prevent future school kidnappings, insisting that children must no longer be left vulnerable to “heartless terrorists.”

“Our children should no longer be sitting ducks for terrorists intent on disrupting their education and subjecting them and their parents to unspeakable trauma,” he added.
