‘I’ll be running for President in 2027’ — Peter Obi

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, making it clear that he plans to run for the nation’s top office.

Obi made the declaration while campaigning for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate ahead of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election in the Federal Capital Territory.

Addressing supporters, he linked their backing in the local election to his broader political ambition. “Support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support here is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see,” he said.

Since aligning with the ADC, Obi’s supporters, including members of the Obidient movement, have intensified calls for the party to present him as its presidential candidate in 2027.

However, the ADC’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, has urged restraint, warning supporters against divisive rhetoric and stressing the need for unity within the party.

Meanwhile, political speculations persist over a possible Obi–Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket on the ADC platform, especially following Kwankwaso’s decision not to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Supporters of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar have also revived calls for Obi to consider a vice-presidential role, similar to the 2019 arrangement, but Obi has firmly rejected such suggestions.

Reiterating his position, Obi told supporters that he intends to contest the 2027 election as the presidential standard bearer, adding that their support in the AMAC poll is crucial to his political journey. He also restated his long-held pledge that, if elected, he would not spend more than four years in office.
