Solomon Dalung, former minister of youth and sports development, has described President Bola Tinubu as a “dwarf” in Nigeria’s political history, insisting that the president should not be compared with the nation’s revered leaders.
Speaking during a television programme on Sunday, Dalung argued that true greatness in leadership is measured by legacy, service, and tangible impact on citizens’ lives.
Asked whether Tinubu could be defeated in the 2027 presidential election despite his reputation as a political heavyweight and strategist, Dalung said such acclaim should reflect in governance outcomes, particularly in the economy and security.
According to him, Tinubu has failed to translate whatever successes he recorded as Lagos State governor into effective national leadership.
“Tinubu is a dwarf in Nigerian political history and should not be compared to leaders like Sir Ahmadu Bello (Sardauna) and Obafemi Awolowo,” Dalung said. “Great leaders served the people and built enduring legacies.”
He accused the president of mismanaging insecurity, the economy, and even the distribution of palliatives meant to cushion the effects of his economic policies, adding that corruption is thriving under the current administration.
Dalung questioned where Tinubu’s much-vaunted political strategy has benefited Nigerians, describing the country’s current economic situation as dire.
He also disclosed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is preparing to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 election, stressing that the party will conduct transparent primaries and unite behind whoever emerges as its candidate.
Dalung served as a minister between 2015 and 2019 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
