Vice-President Kashim Shettima has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over what he described as a flawed online membership registration process, claiming the portal was flooded with fake identities.
Speaking during an interfaith Iftar hosted by President Bola Tinubu and attended by federal ministers, Shettima mocked the opposition party for advocating electronic transmission of election results while allegedly failing to manage its own digital registration system.
The ADC had, on March 1, launched its nationwide online membership registration ahead of the 2027 general election, in line with provisions of the amended Electoral Act.
Taking a swipe at the party, Shettima referred to it as the “Alliance for Democratic Confusion,” saying its portal was overwhelmed by fictitious names shortly after it went live.
He further accused opposition elements of spreading misinformation, quoting former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill to underscore his point about the value of truth in politics.
As political activities gradually build toward the next election cycle, the vice-president urged political officeholders to actively defend and promote the policies and achievements of the administration.
He expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is in a stronger political position than it was during the 2023 general election.
Shettima also dismissed allegations that governors of states such as Rivers, Delta, and Kano were being pressured to defect to the APC, insisting that any such moves were voluntary.
