South-East former governors forum launched, backs Tinubu’s infrastructure drive

A new political platform, the South-East Former Governors Forum, has been inaugurated in Enugu, bringing together past leaders from the region to support current administrations and contribute to national development.

The forum was formally launched on Tuesday, with the Minister of Works, David Umahi, joining other former governors at its maiden meeting.

Speaking after the gathering, Umahi said the forum was established to provide guidance and support to serving governors in the South-East, irrespective of political affiliation.

He explained that the body would serve as an advisory platform on key regional and national issues, adding that membership is open to all former governors from the zone.

Umahi noted that although some former governors were unable to attend due to engagements abroad, a larger turnout is expected at subsequent meetings.

The forum also commended the performance of current governors in the region, while pledging to work closely with them to advance development and strengthen cooperation across states.

In its remarks, the group praised President Bola Tinubu for what it described as a nationwide infrastructure drive and inclusive appointments benefiting the South-East.

It further expressed appreciation for federal support to state governments in the region and voiced backing for the President’s re-election bid.

The meeting was attended by several former governors, including Sullivan Chime, Martin Elechi, Okezie Ikpeazu, Chris Ngige, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The forum members later paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah.

Umahi said the forum would expand its participation in the coming weeks as more former governors indicate interest in joining the initiative.
