Troops intercept terrorists’ ammunition couriers in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have disrupted a suspected terrorist logistics network in Kogi State, intercepting couriers and recovering a cache of ammunition during a series of intelligence-led operations.

The operations, conducted over a three-month period, were part of intensified efforts by the Brigade to dismantle terrorist supply chains and restrict their movement within the area of responsibility.

In one of the incidents, troops deployed along the Jamata–Owara Road in Lokoja Local Government Area on March 29, 2026, intercepted a suspected courier riding a motorcycle. A search revealed the motorcycle had been specially modified with a concealed compartment used for covert transportation of ammunition.

Preliminary investigations linked the suspect to known terrorist elements, prompting follow-up operations.

In a related development on April 20, 2026, troops acting on credible intelligence mounted a snap checkpoint at Oshokoshoko along the Obajana–Kabba Road, also in Lokoja LGA. During the operation, a Toyota bus traveling from Makurdi to Obajana was intercepted.

Two suspects, identified as Mallam Zubairu Abubakar and Adamu Abubakar Abdullahi, were arrested. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a sack containing 314 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition and three AK-47 rifle magazines concealed behind the driver’s seat.

Other items recovered from the suspects included two mobile phones, a driver’s licence, a National Identification Number slip, and an identity card.

The suspects, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the 12 Military Intelligence Brigade for further investigation.

Military authorities said the operations highlight the troops’ vigilance and commitment to disrupting terrorist logistics networks and denying them freedom of movement within the region.
