Political leaders from Enugu State have pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was made on Tuesday during a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where the delegation was led by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
The delegation included prominent figures such as former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former governors Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as well as former Anambra State governor Jim Nwobodo. Also present were Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, alongside lawmakers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and academics.
Speaking during the meeting, President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the show of support, noting that ongoing economic reforms are yielding tangible improvements across states, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and overall welfare. He commended state governors for effectively utilising federal allocations and highlighted what he described as growing political alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress, attributing it to the impact of federal policies.
The President also assured the delegation of continued collaboration with Enugu State, particularly in areas such as railway development, power sector reforms, and infrastructure expansion. He emphasised that increased funding to states has improved their capacity to execute long-term development projects.
Governor Mbah, in his remarks, said the visit was to express gratitude for federal support and to reaffirm the state’s commitment to the President’s vision for economic growth. He described the relationship between Enugu State and the federal government as mutually beneficial, adding that the support received has contributed to key developmental strides in the state.
Mbah cited projects inaugurated during the President’s January 2025 visit to Enugu as catalysts for socio-economic progress and praised Tinubu for engaging the state despite political differences at the time.
Also speaking, Nnamani said the delegation came to thank the President for infrastructural interventions in Enugu and the South-East, noting that such support has enabled the state government to achieve significant progress.
He expressed confidence in the leadership of Governor Mbah and affirmed that the people of Enugu State would support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
