A Canada-based Nigerian, Idris Olajide Oladejo, has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference following the alleged sexual assault of a child at a grocery store in Toronto.
According to the Toronto Police Service (TPS), the 35-year-old Toronto resident was arrested on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, after investigators identified him as the suspect in the incident.
Police said the alleged assault occurred on Sunday, June 21, at about 7:00 p.m. in the Victoria Park Avenue and St. Clair Avenue East area of Toronto.
The victim was reportedly at the grocery store with their parents when the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the child before fleeing the scene. A civilian reportedly pursued the suspect as he escaped.
Following the incident, investigators released a description of the suspect and appealed to the public for information. He was initially described as a man in his 30s with a thin build, wearing a green T-shirt, dark Adidas shorts, and pink Crocs.
In an update, the TPS confirmed that Oladejo was arrested and charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference.
He was scheduled to appear before the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
The Toronto Police Service noted that sexual assault includes any form of unwanted sexual contact, ranging from inappropriate touching to more serious forms of sexual violence.
