National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, says the party worked with Accord to prevent the All Progressives Congress (APC) from winning the August 15 Osun governorship election.
Speaking on Trust TV, Abdullahi said the ADC anticipated that opposition votes could be divided, giving the APC an opportunity to win. He said the party therefore chose to cooperate with Accord.
Although ADC candidate Najeem Salaam polled 17,180 votes, Abdullahi said the party did not consider the result a failure because its main objective was to stop the APC from returning to power in the state.
He said the outcome demonstrated that opposition parties could defeat the ruling APC when they work together, arguing that the experience could have implications for the 2027 presidential election.
Abdullahi, however, said the ADC was not claiming sole credit for Ademola Adeleke’s victory, stressing that the credit belonged to the people of Osun State and the governor who secured re-election.
