The crisis within the OK Movement has taken a new turn following the resignation of its Director-General, High Chief Peter Ameh.
Ameh announced his resignation on Tuesday in Abuja, saying he was stepping down with immediate effect to focus on his bid to represent Kogi East Senatorial District in the 2027 election on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In his resignation letter, Ameh said the decision would allow him to devote the necessary time and energy to his senatorial campaign.
He, however, stressed that his resignation did not affect his support for the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whom he described as his leader.
“I remain firmly committed to the ideals that united us and wish the OK Movement every success in its future endeavours,” Ameh said.
He also expressed appreciation to Obi for what he described as his exemplary leadership, integrity and credibility, which he said inspired the formation of the movement and continued to shape its vision.
Ameh added that he would accept whoever Obi appointed as his successor as Director-General of the movement.
His resignation comes amid a leadership crisis that has recently rocked the OK Movement, with some members challenging his leadership.
The development is expected to further heighten concerns about the movement’s leadership structure as political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
