The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has called on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support its candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a statement on Friday, APM National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf alleged that Tinubu had failed to provide effective leadership and had “abdicated his official duties” to family members, aides and other unelected individuals.

Yusuf also criticised Tinubu’s absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria and delivered the country’s national statement.

The APM spokesperson further faulted the administration’s handling of insecurity, alleging that Tinubu had failed to visit communities affected by terrorism, banditry and kidnapping or directly engage victims and their families.

He also criticised the government’s economic policies, including petrol subsidy removal, tax reforms and external borrowing, which he claimed had worsened hardship, driven businesses out of the country and increased Nigeria’s debt burden.

Yusuf said the country could not afford another four years under what he described as an “insensitive and rudderless administration”.

He urged Tinubu to withdraw from the 2027 contest and support Makinde, describing the Oyo governor as a younger and experienced leader with a blueprint to “reset Nigeria”.

The APM’s position comes as political parties and opposition groups intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
