A group, Save Oyo Movement (SOM), has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of allegedly spending more than N4 billion in state funds on the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and campaign vehicles.

The group also criticised the APM’s recent call on President Bola Tinubu to step aside for Makinde, describing the demand as politically unrealistic.

In a statement on Sunday signed by its coordinator, Akeem Oladiti, SOM alleged that Makinde had been releasing N250 million monthly over the past six months to fund the operations of the APM, including salaries and allowances of party officials.

The group further alleged that the governor purchased more than 30 Hilux vehicles for distribution to APM state coordinators.

According to SOM, some of the vehicles were initially kept at Makinde’s campaign office in Abuja before being moved to undisclosed locations.

The group called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the finances of the Oyo State Government.

It alleged that the reported use of state resources to support the governor’s political activities had become a matter of concern.

SOM also linked the APM’s call for Tinubu to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race in favour of Makinde to what it described as an attempt to justify the party’s alleged monthly funding.

The group said it expected the alleged expenditure to end ahead of the 2027 elections, when, according to it, Makinde would face the end of his tenure as governor.

The allegations have not been independently established, and neither Makinde nor the Oyo State Government was quoted in the statement responding to them.
