Obi: I won 2023 election, but have no evidence

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has insisted that he won the 2023 presidential election despite admitting that he has no evidence to substantiate the claim.

Obi made the statement during an interview with BBC News while discussing his political ambitions, the 2023 election and his continued criticism of the electoral process.

The former Anambra State governor had previously alleged that the 2023 presidential election was rigged and maintained that he emerged as the actual winner.

During the interview, Obi was asked about his repeated claim that he won the election and whether he still stood by his position.

“Frankly, I don’t like going back to the past, but I still think what I think,” he said.

When the interviewer asked whether he had evidence to support his claim that he won the election, Obi acknowledged that he did not.

“Well, there is no evidence. Everything is not based on evidence,” he responded.

The interviewer subsequently challenged Obi’s position, pointing out that he could not continue to speak about the future while disregarding what happened in the past, particularly the disputed 2023 election.

Obi, however, remained firm in his position.

“I won the election,” he declared.

Obi and the Labour Party had challenged the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, which was won by Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Presidential Election Petition Court dismissed Obi’s petition in September 2023, while the Supreme Court subsequently upheld Tinubu’s victory in October 2023.

Despite the judicial decisions, Obi has continued to maintain that the 2023 election did not reflect the will of Nigerian voters and has repeatedly referenced the election in his political arguments.
