The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will unveil its National Campaign Council and present its statement of account at its third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday, October 26, in Abuja.
The party said the disclosure of its financial records was part of its commitment to transparency and accountability, challenging other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to make their finances public.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.
According to the statement, the meeting will hold at 10am at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.
“A major highlight of the meeting will be the release and presentation of the party’s Statement of Account by the National Treasurer. This is in deference to our avowed commitment to the principles of transparency and accountability,” the statement said.
The NDC urged the APC and other political parties to adopt similar measures in managing and disclosing their finances.
The party also dismissed speculation about its financial position, attributing its limited resources partly to the inability of many of its candidates to pay for nomination forms amid prevailing economic challenges.
It claimed that about 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford the expression-of-interest forms and said it had provided the forms free of charge to those affected.
The statement blamed the situation on what it described as poverty, hunger and deprivation resulting from the APC-led administration’s economic policies.
The party said the NEC meeting would also feature the inauguration of its National Campaign Council, which would coordinate campaigns for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
It added that candidates would receive certificates of return for their respective offices as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Declaring its readiness for the elections, the NDC said it was determined to provide Nigerians with what it described as altruistic leadership.
“The NDC is turbo-charged and ready to give Nigerians the altruistic leadership the nation deserves,” the statement added.
