Angry customer attempts to set bank on fire in Ogun over poor service

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, has confirmed the arrest of an aggrieved customer who was attempting to set fire to a Guaranty Trust Bank building in the Oke-Ilewo area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as Sodirudeen Rufai, was reportedly unhappy because of an unauthorised N500,000 debited from his account and all attempts to get reasonable explanations from the bank, on how he was defrauded fell on deaf ears.

Witnesses said that he entered the bank with a bottle of petrol and a lighter and threatened to set the building on fire if his demands were not met.

Security guards at the bank intervened and disarmed Rufai before he could cause any damage. He was then handed over to the police.

Odutola, the police spokesperson said, “He was fighting a noble cause in an ignoble way. He has a right to make a complaint that his money is missing. But the way he went about it was wrong. We are going to hold him for an attempt to commit suicide with murder because if he had succeeded, he would have killed himself and every other person in the bank.”
