Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River state has placed an immediate ban on commercial motorcycles within the Calabar metropolis.
In a statement by Emmanuel Ogbeche, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the number one man of the state came to this conclusion after several consultations with security chiefs around the state.
“The Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, after due consultation with key security chiefs in the state has directed a total ban on the activities of all commercial motorcycles within the Calabar Metropolis,” the statement read.
However, Governor Otu directed that all activities of commercial motorcyclists should be restricted to remote areas.
“Those willing to use their motorcycles to earn a decent living are restricted only to remote areas away from the city centre.”
A stern warning was also given to vandals who take pleasure in destroying public assets. The state government advised that anyone caught in the act would be prosecuted accordingly.
