Funmilayo Aduloju, 40, was arraigned in an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly biting a fellow lady, Adetutu Abegunde, on her left eye.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 12 at about 8:30 pm at Ekute area of Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
He said that the defendant and the victim were neighbours and had a misunderstanding which led to a fight. During the fight, the defendant bit the victim on her left eye, causing serious injury.
The prosecutor said that the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 185 of the Criminal Code, Cap C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
When asked how she pleads, the defendant, Adulogu, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Before the ruling, the victim, Abegunde, told the court that she was still in pain and that she had been unable to see properly from her left eye since the incident.
She said that she had to undergo surgery to remove the bite mark from her eye and that she was still undergoing treatment.
She further urged the court to grant the defendant bail so that she could pay for her medical expenses.
The Chief Magistrate, A.O Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to August 16 for hearing.
