Ex-soldier in court for wearing military uniform, extorting motorists

A dismissed soldier was arraigned in a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for impersonation and illegal possession of an Army uniform by the Lagos State Police Command on Friday.

The ex-forceman, Ameh Ameh was brought before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun by the prosecutor, Inspector Rita Momoh who explained to the court that the defendant was an ex-force man who was dismissed years ago.

Momoh further told the court that 45-year-old Ameh had been deceiving people and taking money from unsuspecting public while disguising as a military man in the Berger area of the state before he was caught in the act.

The offence, according to Momoh is punishable under Section 380 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The charge read, “That you, Ameh Ameh on August 12, 2023, at Berger, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District did commit felony to wit: impersonation and unlawful possession of Army uniform and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 380 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

Magistrate Olatunbosun granted the defendant a bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety who is responsible in like sum.

The case was then adjourned till November 13 for mention.
