Gay wedding ceremony in Delta disrupted, 67 suspects arrested | Video

The Delta State Police Command has arrested 67 men suspected to be gay in the Ekpan area of the state.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, August 29, at a hotel in the area. The police said they received a tip-off that the suspects were planning to hold a gay wedding ceremony at the hotel.

Bright Edafe, the command’s Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a tweet on Tuesday.

He shared photos of the suspects on his X page and wrote that: “Delta State Police Command has arrested 67 gay suspects at a hotel on 28/8/2023. They were at a suspected gay wedding ceremony between Daniel Pius ‘m’ (groom) and Maxwell Ohwonowho (bride) at Teebulus Hotel along Refinery Road, Ekpan. I paraded them today at Ekpan Police Station.”

A team of police officers was then dispatched to the hotel, where they found the suspects gathered in a room. The suspects were arrested and taken to the police station.

The police said the suspects will be charged with violating Section 284 of the Criminal Code, which prohibits same-sex marriage.
