Now very controversial actress, musician and talk show host, Jada Pinkett Smith has confirmed that she and her versatile husband, Will Smith, have been living separate lives since 2016.
In an interview on the Today show on Wednesday, Pinkett Smith said that they are “still figuring it out” and “have been doing some really heavy-duty work together.” She added that they have “a deep love for each other” and are “going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
Pinkett Smith also said that they have not filed for divorce and have no plans to do so at this time. She explained that they made a promise to themselves that they would never get a divorce and that she has not been able to break that promise.
The couple’s separation comes after years of speculation about the state of their marriage. In 2016, Pinkett Smith revealed that she had an extramarital affair with singer, August Alsina. The couple later said that they had worked through the issue and were still together.
In recent months, there have been renewed rumors of trouble in the couple’s paradise. Earlier in March 2023, Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock at the Academy Awards after Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s alopecia. The incident led to widespread criticism of Smith and speculation that it could put a strain on his marriage.
Pinkett Smith’s confirmation of her separation from Will Smith comes as a surprise to many. The couple have always been very private about their personal lives, and they have rarely spoken publicly about their marriage.
