Samuel Adeniyi, a security man was on Monday remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly smashing the head of his girlfriend, Morolake Sunday, with a sledgehammer.

He allegedly committed the crime in the Lekki Phase 1 area workplace of the deceased in Lagos state because he suspected her of cheating on him.

33- year-old Adeniyi was remanded by Magistrate Patrick Nwaka of the Yaba Magistrate’s Court after he was slammed with a one count charge of murder.

The police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen informed the court that the incident happened on August 10, 2023, at No. 33, Audu Ekpa Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.

During investigations, according to Nuraddeen, the accused had confessed that his lover was cheating on him and was never satisfied sexually.

It was discovered that on the day of the incident, Sunday who worked as a Nanny had left her work station and went to meet with another man, on a pretence of going to buy recharge card.

Hours later, when she returned, an argument ensued and Adeniyi confessed that he mistakenly used the sledgehammer to hit her. Adeniyi fled the scene, while Sunday was declared deceased on arrival to the hospital.

The charge against him read, “That you, Samuel Adeniyi, on August 10, 2023, around 12 pm, at No. 33 Audu Ekpa Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Sarah Morolake, aged 25 years by hitting a sledgehammer on her head, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015”

No plea was taken, however the case was adjourned till October 10, 2023.
