Jimmy Kimmel will make history as the host of the Oscars for the fourth time. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the news on Wednesday.
Kimmel, the popular late night show host will emcee the 96th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 10, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. He previously hosted the Oscars in 2017, 2018, and 2023.
“I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars again. I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times, and now I will finally have achieved that dream,” Kimmel said in a statement.
Kimmel is one of the most popular hosts in late-night television. He has been the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2003. He has also won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Variety Talk Series.
Kimmel’s return to the Oscars comes after a tumultuous year for the awards show. In 2022, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage during the ceremony. The incident led to widespread condemnation of Smith and sparked a debate about violence and accountability in Hollywood.
Kimmel is expected to bring his signature humor and wit to the 2024 Oscars. He is also known for his ability to connect with audiences and make light of difficult situations.
The 2024 Oscars will be the first ceremony since the Academy announced a new set of diversity and inclusion standards for films eligible for Best Picture. The new standards are designed to encourage the representation of underrepresented groups in the film industry.
