Lagos shuts Lekki Coliseum, 18 other event centres over safety concerns

The Lagos Safety Commission (LSC) has taken a bold step to ensure public safety by shutting down 19 event centres, including the prominent Lekki Coliseum for safety infractions.

According to Lanre Mojola, the Director General, Lagos Safety Commission, during an on-the-spot assessment of event centres in the State on Thursday the decision was made following a series of incidents and concerns raised by the public.

The Lekki Coliseum, a luxury lifestyle destination resort located in the heart of Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, has been a popular venue for various events, including corporate gatherings, weddings, and entertainment.

Mojola stressed that the safety assessment exercise is an ongoing effort to promote the Commission’s mandate to ensure zero accidents, especially during this yuletide season.

He further made known that before the exercise, the Commission had informed all event owners through their various associations to adopt safety best practices at all events and to duly register all events with 250 guests and above through its registration portal www.lasgsafetyreg.com to obtain an Event Safety Permit.

Other event centres affected Include White Stone Event Centre, Lekki Coliseum, Leisure Park, La Madison, Haddasah, The Summit, Villa Park, De Dove, Majesty, The Podium, Celebrations Gardens, Tastee Event Centres, Majesty Events Cent, among others.
