Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has appointed Akinwale Akinwole, popularly known as Wolekanle, as his new Chief of Staff, barely hours after his predecessor, Segun Ogunwuyi, resigned from the position.
The appointment was announced on Monday, October 12, 2026, alongside the appointment of Aderonke Adedayo, the governor’s Special Adviser on General Intervention and Donor Agencies, as Director-General of the Due Process Office.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, announced the appointments in letters signed on behalf of the governor. Both appointments take immediate effect.
Babatunde conveyed Makinde’s congratulations to the appointees and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with loyalty, commitment and dedication to the service of Oyo State.
Akinwole previously served as Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission before his latest appointment as Chief of Staff.
Adedayo, meanwhile, will retain her existing position as Special Adviser on General Intervention and Donor Agencies while taking on the additional responsibility of heading the Due Process Office.
Ogunwuyi’s resignation was announced earlier on Monday in a letter dated October 12 and made available to journalists in Ibadan.
In the letter, the former Chief of Staff thanked Makinde for the opportunity to serve the state, describing his time in the administration as an honour and a fulfilling experience.
He also expressed pride in the administration’s collective efforts to advance Oyo State’s growth, development and prosperity, while reaffirming his respect for the governor and loyalty to the state and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Ogunwuyi did not state a reason for his resignation in the letter.
The appointment of Akinwole provides a successor to Ogunwuyi, while Adedayo’s new role expands her responsibilities within the Makinde administration.
