Hours after Grammy award winning entertainer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu otherwise known as Burna Boy released his seventh studio album entitled “I Told Them” into the market, mixed opinions amongst fans have trailed it.
While some fans believe that the album is not as great as Burna Boy claims it to be, and that it is not a grand statement, others believe that the album is Burna Boy’s strongest album yet, and that it is more memorable and focused than his previous album.
The album is 15 tracks and it features top acts like rapper J Cole, 21 Savage, Dave, Bryon Messiah and Nigeria’s Seyi Vibez.
Some of the songs in the album includes, I Told Them, Normal, On Form, Sittin’ On Top Of The World, Tested, Proved and Trusted, Cheat on Me, Virgil, Big 7,Dey Play, City Boys, Giza, Jewels, IF I’M Flying, Thanks, Talibans II (Bonus).
Interestingly, on the popular microblogging platform X formerly known as Twitter, the album had triggered a big debate about its message and style.
Popular controversial online influencer, Daniel Regha wrote that: “Burna’s new album (I Told Them) is a 3/10, it’s the worst effort from Burna since he started his career. The beats are great but the songs had no substance; The entire album also promoted pomposity, encouraged violence & explicit lyrics. Furthermore, the album title doesn’t correlate with the theme. Burna also dissing Nigerians in “Thanks” ft J. Cole was not cool, plus some intros were not necessary. The album was not worth the wait or hype. No offense.”
On Reddit also, fans who said he prefers pop music over Afro beats expressed that they are a long-time Burna Boy fan, but they did not enjoy the album as much as they expected.
