Tributes have been paid to acclaimed Nigerian-British singer-songwriter Mark Orabiyi, known professionally as Talay Riley, after he was fatally stabbed in east London.
The 35-year-old musician was found with stab wounds in the garden of a property on Pankhurst Avenue on Friday morning. Despite efforts by emergency responders, he was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
A second man in his 20s was also injured in the incident but is expected to recover.
Police arrested two men, aged 27 and 24, and a 25-year-old woman on suspicion of murder. The 24-year-old man and the woman were later released without further action, while the 27-year-old suspect has been released on bail pending further investigations.
Talay Riley enjoyed a successful career as both a performer and songwriter, touring with artists including Skepta, Usher and Trey Songz. He also co-wrote songs for major stars such as Dua Lipa, Jessie J, Ellie Goulding, Britney Spears, Craig David and Khalid. Among his notable credits was Dua Lipa’s hit track “Last Dance.”
In a tribute, his family described him as a “beloved son, brother, uncle and friend” whose kindness, talent and spirit touched countless lives.
Detectives have appealed for witnesses and anyone with CCTV or video footage from the area at the time of the attack to come forward as investigations continue.
