Nigerian hero hailed for stopping teen knife fight in London

A Nigerian man, Hammed Danmole, has been praised in the United Kingdom after courageously intervening to stop a violent knife fight involving three teenagers at Burgess Park in London.

Danmole, a 45-year-old property investor based in Beckenham, said he acted out of concern for the young boys, explaining that he could not bear the thought of one of them losing his life. The incident occurred on May 17 while he was playing in a Sunday league football match nearby.

According to reports, Danmole noticed a confrontation escalating between three teenagers, two of whom allegedly brandished machetes during an argument. While many bystanders watched from a distance or recorded the scene on their phones, he rushed in and separated the youths, preventing what could have become a fatal encounter.

Reflecting on his actions, Danmole said seeing the teenagers reminded him of his own 17-year-old son, adding that he would do everything possible to stop young people from harming one another.

The teenagers were subsequently arrested and charged with offences including possession of bladed weapons and offensive weapons in a public place. Danmole’s bravery has since earned widespread commendation for helping avert a potential tragedy.
