The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have resolved to ground activities nationwide from October 3.
This was announced in Abuja on Tuesday by the Presidents of both unions.
According to them, the action is due to the government’s inability to honor it’s agreements it reached with labour over the removal of petroleum subsidy.
Remember that the 21-day ultimatum given by the NLC ended last week. The national president of NLC, Joe Ajaero had told newsmen thereafter that: “none of the demands put before the Federal Government had been addressed.”
On September 5th and 6th to prove its seriousness for the indefinite strike later in the month, the union embarked on a two-day nationwide warning strike.
The NLC and the TUC are asking for the implementation of palliatives, tax exemptions and allowances to public sector workers and a review of the minimum wage.
