Nigerians have come together to raise over ₦32 million for Mohbad’s five-month-old son, Liam Light.
Recall that Mohbad, a popular singer, passed away on September 12, leaving behind his wife, Wunmi, and their young son.
The crowdfunding effort was started by Nigerian music executive Samklef, who took to Twitter, now known as X to appeal to fans and well-wishers to donate to the cause. “Mohbad was a friend to all and his music touched the lives of many,” Samklef wrote. “Please let’s help his wife and son in this time of need.”
The response from Nigerians was overwhelming, with donations pouring in from all over the country. Within a few days, the crowdfunding campaign had surpassed its initial goal of 20 million naira. By September 19, according to Samklef, over 32 million naira had been raised.
He wrote; “So far we have raised! N32,744,900 so far for Mohbad’s son! God bless everyone contributing there is the deputy governor of Lagos state @drobafemihamzat paying last respects for imole! mohbad”
Samklef further informed that the money raised will be used to support Liam Light and his mother, Wunmi. It will also be used to cover the cost of Mohbad’s funeral expenses.
“The crowdfunding effort is a testament to the generosity and compassion of Nigerians. In a time of grief, Nigerians have come together to support one of their own”, one of Mohbad’s fans stated.
