The Lagos State Police have disclosed that they have begun investigation into the death of a 23-year-old good Samaritan, shot dead by armed robbers, while attempting to retrieve his female friend’s phone, snatched by the criminals.
The deceased, Adekunle Agboola, a 200 level student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Department of Metallurgical and Material Engineering, was killed by the armed robbers along Harvey Road/Moore Road Junction, Yaba, at about 9PM on Saturday.
It was gathered that Adekunle and one Opeyemi, his friend and school mate had boarded a shuttle bus from Yaba to UNILAG and while in the vehicle, a man, who was hanging at the back of the bus, snatched Oyeyemi’s phone, an iPhone 7 plus and jumped off the bus and fled.
Opeyemi quickly raised alarm and Adekunle, in a desperate attempt to retrieve the phone, jumped down from the bus and pursued the fleeing robber.
Adekunle was almost closing in on the robber when one of the hoodlums suspected to be working with the fleeing robber, appeared from the blues and shot the student.
Adekunle, who was shot at close range on the left side of his head, died on the spot.
