Former Nigerian Under-17 star, Akinkunmi Amoo will be spending the next one year inside a Danish prison for sexually assaulting three women in Denmark.
The 20-year-old striker for Danish Superliga side FC Copenhagen was convicted and sentenced on Friday, June 23 by a District court in Copenhagen.
According to reports from court documents, Amoo a top star in the Danish side was arrested and “charged with rape in a sexual relationship other than intercourse”. He was also charged with attempted rape and harassment of two other female complainants.
On all charges, the young player was found guilty; just as he was also given a six-years entry ban to the country.
Amoo’s case first came to limelight in May when a journalist, Osasu Obayiuwa on his Twitter handle said that the Danish Police had initially brought criminal charges against him in April. It was followed by another in July and then a third in August- all in 2022. Then on September 10, he was arrested but on October 7 of that same year, he was released on bail.
On his Twitter account on Monday, Obayiuwa further revealed that the Denmark-based player has indicated interest to appeal the decision.
Recall that in January 2022, Amoo signed a five-year deal with FC Copenhagen which cost €4.4 million.
Weeks ago, Amoo who had been described as a football genius was in Abuja, Nigeria and trained with the Flying Eagles for the recently concluded FIFA U-20 team but he was not part of the final pick.
