Akintola Williams, the doyen of the accounting profession in Nigeria, has died. He was 104 years old.
Williams was the founder of Akintola Williams & Co. (now Deloitte & Touche, in 1952), one of the leading accounting firms in Nigeria. He was also one of the first presidents of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.(ICAN). His tenure as president was between 1963 to 1965
Williams was a pioneer in the accounting profession in Nigeria. He played a key role in the development of the profession and helped to raise its standards. He was also a strong advocate for the development of the Nigerian economy. He was a member of several government committees and boards, and he advised many businesses and organizations.
Williams was a respected figure in the accounting profession and in the Nigerian business community. His death has been described by many, as a great loss to the country.
He received many awards and honours, including the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM). He was also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Williams’ death was announced by his firm, Akintola Williams & Co., on Monday.
The cause of death was not released. He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
