Soludo, Wike, Adeleke join Tinubu’s 2027 campaign council

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expanded its presidential campaign council for the 2027 general election, appointing Rivers State politician and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke; and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo as state campaign coordinators.

The new list is expected to be inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

Under the revised arrangement, Wike will coordinate the APC presidential campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, while Soludo will oversee the campaign in Anambra State. Adeleke, who secured re-election in Osun State on the platform of the Accord Party on August 16, has been named the campaign coordinator for Osun.

The appointments are notable because the three politicians are affiliated with parties other than the APC. Wike is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Soludo belongs to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), while Adeleke was re-elected on the platform of the Accord Party.

The APC also appointed former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, as Deputy National Coordinator I for Stakeholders’ Mobilisation in the South-West.

The latest appointments represent a major restructuring of the presidential campaign council initially announced by the party on August 22.

In the original list, former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was appointed Director-General, while Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were named Deputy Directors-General.

Under the revised structure, Akpabio, Abbas and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq have been appointed Deputy Vice-Chairmen I, II and III, respectively. Buni is now Deputy Director-General I for the North, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has been appointed Deputy Director-General II for the region.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu have been named Deputy Directors-General I and II for the South, respectively.

Another significant change is the appointment of all 32 APC governors as presidential campaign coordinators in their respective states. The arrangement places the governors at the forefront of coordinating the party’s mobilisation and campaign activities across the states they govern.

For states where the APC does not currently have a governor, the party has also designated key figures to coordinate its campaign. Sharafadeen Alli, the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State, has been appointed coordinator for Oyo, while Mohammed Abubakar, its governorship candidate in Bauchi State, will oversee the campaign in Bauchi. Chijioke Chukwu, the party’s flagbearer in Abia State, has similarly been named coordinator for Abia.

The revised council also includes 14 advisers, a feature absent from the initial list. Those appointed include former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande; former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba; Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume; former Cross River South Senator Florence Ita-Giwa; former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun; former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore; and former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

The expanded council comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general election. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s revised timetable, campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections opened on August 19 and will end on January 14, 2027.

Tinubu is seeking re-election amid competition from other political figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi, who is identified in the report as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The inauguration of the expanded council is expected to formalise the revised campaign structure as the APC prepares to coordinate its national, state and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
