President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his re-election, expressing Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Tinubu, in a statement issued by the State House on Monday, described Lula as his friend and said the Brazilian leader’s renewed mandate presented an opportunity to deepen the longstanding friendship and historical ties between Nigeria and Brazil.
The Nigerian president noted that both countries, as leading nations of the Global South, could promote economic integration and advance shared interests amid a rapidly changing global order.
He expressed his readiness to expand cooperation between the two countries in trade and investment, agriculture and food security, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, science and technology, education, aviation and cultural exchange.
Tinubu also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with Brazil to strengthen multilateral cooperation and advance common priorities across Africa, South America and the wider Global South.
“On behalf of the people of Nigeria, I wish you a successful new term in office,” the president said.
The statement was dated October 26, 2026, in Abuja.
