Traditional ruler, prime minister shot dead, burnt in Imo

Eze Victor Ijioma the traditional ruler of Orsu Obodo community in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, and the traditional prime minister of Mgbele community of the same area have been murdered by unknown gunmen.

The police in the state revealed that the two traditional rulers were killed in different attacks on Thursday.

Eyewitnesses said that the traditional ruler was ambushed in his vehicle at the Izombo community and further set ablaze in his car.

“The Orsu Obodo monarch was accosted at Umuamaka Junction in the neighbouring Izombe town, where he was killed inside his car. His assailants, who were not satisfied with his death, went ahead to set his corpse ablaze inside his car,” the witness said.

In confirmation of the incidents, Henry Okoye, the police public relations officer, noted that the Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Berde, had set in motion a tactical team to fish out the perpetrators.

Currently, a security patrol team have been ordered to flood the affected area for the purpose of helping residents have confidence in the might of the force and eventual arrest of the killers, Okoye informed.

“The Commissioner of Police condemns in strong terms the gruesome murders of the traditional ruler and the prime minister. He has inaugurated high powered team of security men to go all out to arrest the hoodlums.

“We are collaborating with the military, and we have increased security presence in the areas with a view to arresting the killers,” the spokesperson said.
