Troops repel ISWAP attack on Pulka military base

Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military location in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, as troops operating under Operation Hadin Kai continued counter-terrorism operations in the area.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), the troops resisted the attack with sustained firepower, preventing the terrorists from breaching or overrunning their position.

The statement said the attackers were forced to withdraw with casualties following the resistance from the troops.

The Nigerian Air Force also provided air support during the encounter, conducting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations and carrying out precision strikes on identified hostile elements as they attempted to escape.

The CJTF equally provided local intelligence and supported the troops in maintaining situational awareness during the operation.

One soldier sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm during the encounter. He was evacuated for medical attention, stabilised and is responding to treatment, with his condition said to be stable.

Following the withdrawal of the terrorists, troops commenced exploitation operations to assess the damage inflicted on the attackers, recover abandoned weapons and equipment, and gather intelligence for follow-up operations.

The military said troops remained deployed across Pulka and had intensified patrols, surveillance and offensive and defensive operations to deny terrorists freedom of movement.

It urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information about suspicious persons, movements or activities to security formations.

The military also reaffirmed its commitment to defeating terrorism and other forms of insecurity in the North-East.
