Former President Donald Trump was arrested on Friday in connection with his alleged role in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was charged with racketeering and conspiracy charges and released on a $200,000 bond.
The former President was designated as inmate No. P01135809 and jail records indicate that he is 6 foot 3 inches tall and weighs 215 pounds. He later headed home to New Jersey once he was released.
The billionaire’s surrender in Georgia marks the fourth time this year that he would be turning himself in to local or federal officials after he was charged with criminal offences.
The 77-year-old is being accused of colluding with 18 other defendants to overturn the 2020 election result in the southern state. He spent less than 30 minutes inside Atlanta’s Fulton County jail before leaving in a convoy.
In a statement to reporters after his arrest, Trump, who also doubles as a frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, described the event as a “very sad day for America.”
“What has taken place here is a travesty of justice. I did nothing wrong,” he informed.
Later on, he posted the mugshot on his Truth Social media platform with the caption “Election Interference” and a link to his campaign website.
Trump’s trial starts on October 23.
