Two suspected carjackers have allegedly killed a final year student of the University of Calabar on Friday night around the Mary Slessor roundabout in Calabar, Cross River state.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Francis Atabi, the 25-year-old final year student of Education and Political science, also worked as a part-time Bolt driver. On Friday night, while on the job, he gave the two suspects a ride.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the time was exactly 8pm when the incident happened. The unsuspecting driver was behind the wheels when suddenly, the two pounced on him in an attempt to snatch his Toyota Corolla vehicle. Sadly, his stiff resistance ignited the anger of the daredevils who retaliated by strangling and stabbing the young driver multiple times till he lost control and unfortunately ran into a security officer.
The security man, reports claimed has since passed on at the medical center were he was taken to.
While confirming the incident, the Cross River State Police Command revealed that investigation has already kick started on the case as its men are doing everything possible to apprehend the suspects.
Irene Ugbo, the spokesperson for the command said: “no stone would be left unturned”.
