The toxicology tests to determine the cause of death of singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad are being conducted in the United States, according to the Lagos Coroner Court.
The state counsel, Oluwaseun Akinde, revealed this on Wednesday during the ongoing inquest into Mohbad’s death. He told the coroner, Magistrate Adetayo Shotobi, that the autopsy into the external body of the deceased had been completed, but the toxicology tests, which involve analyzing samples of Mohbad’s internal organs, were being carried out in the US.
Akinde explained further that the decision to conduct the toxicology tests in the US was made due to the “nature of various substances alleged to have either been injected or taken by the deceased.” He also stated that sending the samples abroad was necessary to “prevent controversy over the autopsy report when finally presented.”
When the coroner questioned the need to send the samples overseas when there are toxicology laboratories in Nigeria. Akinde responded that the Lagos State government decided to use US laboratories because of their “expertise and experience” in handling such cases.
The toxicology tests are expected to be completed within the next few weeks. Once the results are available, the coroner will be able to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death.
