‘Very wicked man’ – Akpabio’s sister-in-law accuses senate president of ties to multiple killings

The political scene has been thrown into turmoil following explosive allegations by Pat Akpabio, sister-in-law to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of complicity in a series of killings allegedly linked to his time as governor of Akwa Ibom State.

In a fiery Facebook video posted on October 11, Pat — a pastor and businesswoman married to the Senate President’s brother, Ibanga Akpabio — launched a blistering attack on the former governor, reviving long-standing controversies surrounding alleged political violence in the state.

“For all the people you people have killed when you were governor, and those you people have killed now that you are in the Senate, it will never be well with you,” she declared in the viral clip.

Pat, who has repeatedly clashed with the Senate President on social media, accused him of betraying political allies who once backed his rise to power — including Umana Okon Umana, Nsima Ekere, Akan Udofia, and Bassey Albert.

She further vowed to challenge Akpabio in the 2027 senatorial election, accusing him of using and abandoning those who supported his political ascent.

In the emotionally charged video, Pat also warned President Bola Tinubu to tread carefully in his relationship with Akpabio, calling him “a very wicked man.” She criticised the Senate President for allegedly neglecting his hometown, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, claiming it has been without electricity for several weeks.

Pat went further to allege that Akpabio once accused her husband, Ibanga, of murder and theft, following the 2019 elections, deepening the family rift.

However, reacting to the accusations, Eseme Eyiboh, spokesperson to the Senate President, dismissed the claims as “baseless, malicious, and politically motivated.”

“If she is aware of any killings, she should report them to the security agencies. Murder is not something to be weaponised for political vendetta. Whoever asserts must prove,” Eyiboh said.

He described Akpabio as “a humble and family-oriented man,” suggesting that Pat’s remarks were merely an attempt to seek public attention.

“The Senate President is a very busy man. I think she is just doing this to draw attention to herself,” Eyiboh added.

The video has since sparked intense debate across social media, with Nigerians divided between those calling for an official investigation into Pat’s allegations and others dismissing it as a bitter family feud gone public.
